Surfers City Holden began its life  as Lockhart Holden in 1962 when David Lockhart took over the Holden Retail outlet called Moran Motors. This was located in Southport at the
top end of Nerang Street, the then business hub of the Gold Coast. In 1989 Peter
Lockhart purchased the business and relocated it to Ashmore. The retail outlet
has continued to grow clearly becoming the premier place for Holden products on
the Gold Coast.

In 2003 the business was purchased by the City Holden Group based in Adelaide.  City Holden is Australia's most awarded Holden dealer, and is sales leader for Holden in South Australia.  The City Holden Group has an excellent reputation for customer service in its own markets, and is well placed to continue the customer service tradition developed by the Lockhart family over many years on the Gold Coast.

During 2003 construction commenced on new state of the art facilities at the corner of Olsen Avenue and Nerang Road at Ashmore.  When completed in mid 2004 these facilities will be among the best in Australia, providing an excellent environment for sales and service customers, with enough capacity to satisfy the growing number of people making the Gold Coast their home year after year.
